The Graphic Design MFA class of 2013 at Maryland Institute College of Art was asked how we stimulate curiosity, trigger a sense of play, foster intuition, encourage diversity of concept and form, allow for failure, enable adaptation, take risks, and maintain momentum in our individual design processes. We evaluated all the strengths, weaknesses and habits that we encounter in approaching our work, and wrote a set of directives for whenever our process flatlined. We have compiled those directives as a 50cm-tall book to play with scale and explore the whole book as an object. Because a book is much more than what is printed on its pages.
